The Little Mermaid

King Triton is in charge of the sea, and merpeople. He rules with his big golden stick; which holds all of his power. He has many daughters but his favorite is Arial. But on the night she is presented to the community she is missing!

Arial dreams of things beyond the world she has grown up in. She wants something else. She goes to parts of the ocean she is not supposed to go and finds things that prove there is another world that she wants to be apart of, and learn more about it.

Meanwhile the evil octopus is watching Arial. She has been banished from the merpeoples world. She is on the outside, looking in. She wants to take over Triton’s job and rule the sea. She wants to be on the inside.

Triton finds out Arial went to the surface! This is forbidden territory. If she goes there she could find out what’s on the outside. Triton gives Sebastian the job of following Arial to make sure she follows the rules.

Arial says “If only I could make him understand. He just doesn’t see things like I do.” She is the queer one in her group. She wishes others would open their eyes and see things like she does. Then she breaks out into song (which I definitely sang along to!)
(Maybe he's right. Maybe there is something the matter with me.
I just don't see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad.)

Sebastian gets mad at Arial and tries to lure her away from her way of thinking. But she swims away with him to the surface again and follows a boat in the sea. She watches the people on the boat and wishes that she could be with them. She wants to be like them.

Arial sees Eric and is enticed. She wants to be part of his world. Then there is a big storm and Eric’s boat catches on fire! (This movie is very dramatic) Eric gets stuck on the burning ship and starts to fall into the ocean. Arial swims after him and pulls him to shore. She watches him while he’s unconscious wishing she could be with him instead of trying to fit into her fathers mold. She finishes her song wishing she could come out.

The evil octopus has been watching Arial and sees that she wants to leave Tritan’s idea of a perfect world and go out on her own. We know she’s up to something but we don’t know what yet.

Sebastian tries to convince Arial she wants to part of Triton’s world. He tries to convince her to stay straight!

Sebastian doesn’t convince Arial that she should stay straight. Triton then calls Sebastian to him. Saying she’s been acting peculiar lately. Triton thinks she’s in love with a merman. Which would make him very happy! He says he knows she’s in love. Sebastian breaks down and says that she’s in love with a human. Triton walks in and finds Arial talking to a statue of Eric. Triton says: “Contact between the human world and the merworld are forbidden!” She says she loves him. He says “So help me Arial, I’m going to get through to you!” And he ruins all the things she has to remind her of the outside world. He’s trying with any way he knows how to try and change Arial. He tries to make sure she’s not queer.

Then the evil eels ruled by Ursula come and try to entice Arial to go and see Ursula. They say that she can help her become queer! She says: “The only way to get what you want is to become a human yourself.” She says she helps poor souls with no one else to turn to. She will turn Arial into a human for three days. Before the sunsets on the third day she has to get Eric to kiss her. If he does kiss her she will stay a human. So Ursula will help Arial become queer/different for three days. Of course the price for becoming what she wants is her voice though! OMG! She can be queer but can’t talk!!! She will be silenced! Anyways she decides it’s worth it and gives Ursula her voice in turn for legs and Eric.

Sebastian gets really mad and says he has to go and find Triton right away and tell him. Then he realizes if he doesn’t help her Arial could be miserable for the rest of her life. So now he has become her ally and wants to help her.

Eric finds Arial and thinks she’s the one he’s been looking for. But then he decides she isn’t because she has no voice. Arial tries to fit in but finds she is not doing so well. She needs to just be herself! Sebastian tries to give Arial pointers on how to get Eric to kiss her.

Triton in the mean time has decided that maybe he shouldn’t have treated Arial so harshly. He is sad that she is missing.

Finally the best seen comes when Eric and Arial are in the boat on the lake. And Sebastian decides to try and move things along by singing!

Through out the song you keep wanting Eric to kiss Arial so that she can stay a part of his world. But Ursula decides she doesn’t want Arial to be accepted as a queer. She wants Arial to be an outcast like herself. So she decides to sabotage everything. First she has the boat tipped over when Eric was going to kiss Arial. Then she sings with Arial’s voice and throws Eric into a trance. She puts him under a spell and makes him think he wants her.

That afternoon they get on a boat to be married. But Eric doesn’t realize what Ursula has done. So Arial follows the boat. If she gets Eric to kiss her before the sun sets she can still be part of his world. She can still become queer.

The animals decided to stall the wedding. They don’t want the evil witch stealing Arial’s dream of being who she wants to be; and being accepted in the human world. Ursula’s shell breaks and Arial gets her voice back in time to tell Eric that she’s the one he’s been looking for.

Ursula pulls Arial away before Eric can kiss her and Arial has to turn back into a mermaid. Which is what she doesn’t want. But Triton stops Ursula by giving up himself for his daughter. He finally decided to accept his daughter for who she is.

Ursula takes Triton’s stick and tries to kill Arial and Eric. If she can’t be a happy person she doesn’t want anyone to be. They should all have to suffer with her. So she creates a big storm to try and stop Arial from having what she wants. She puts all her effort into keeping Arial from being queer. But she doesn’t think about Eric being Arial’s ally and he kills Ursula. Then al the merpeople under Ursula’s spells go back to being themselves. Including Triton.

Triton watches Arial looking after Eric and sees that she wants to be with him. He decides to let her be queer and gives her legs! He accepts her for who she is. Arial and Eric get married and Trion gives his blessing by putting a big rainbow! in the sky over their boat!! YES be gives them his blessing by putting a symbol of a rainbow in the sky!!
